“Last year showed that the measures we took in the Asiatic region in association with the German Convention Bureau and the Frankfurt Convention Bureau are working,” says Johann Thoma, Director of Guest Events of Messe Frankfurt since 2016. In 2015, Congress Frankfurt only welcomed one Asian event organiser whilst, in 2016, there were nine conferences with an Asian background. They came from China, Korea and Thailand.
In 2016, Congress Frankfurt managed 163 conferences and meetings on the tradefair grounds and in the Kap Europa. “This corresponds to a growth rate of ten per cent,” said a pleased Mrs. Delius-Fisher, Director Congress Frankfurt and added that the event organisers as well as the approximately 132,500 participants were, once again, extremely satisfied with the range of services Messe Frankfurt offers.
The events in 2016 included large, international congresses such as the 49. Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in May with 4,000 participants and the 80. General Assembly of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in October with 3,500 participants from more than 80 countries.
Furthermore, nine scientific professional associations also held events in the Congress Center, Forum and Kap Europa: the German associations for gynaecology & midwifery, palliative medicine, neonatology and paediatric intensive care medicine, neurosurgery, cardiology, heart and circulation research, rheumatology, hand surgery, orthodontics as well as the German Association for the Study of Pain. All the medical events were attended by a total of 22,000 participants who came to Frankfurt.
2017 began with an international industry highlight for Congress Frankfurt – the annual conference of the AC Forum (Associations & Conference Forum) from 19. - 21. January. The potential of Europe’s only networking platform for scientific associations which organise their regular congresses themselves incorporates 100 events. These largely involve big medical congresses with a large number of participants. The members of the AC Forum, primarily managing directors and conference managers, meet once a year to discuss their work and experiences.
The 106. German Librarians Day from 30.05. – 02.06. which is expecting more than 3,000 visitors and will be held in the Congress Center, the adjoining Hall 5.1. and the Forum, is a further highlight of the event calendar.
This will be followed by the 25. Annual Conference of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) from 14. – 17. June which will also be held in the Congress Center. Further scientific professional organisations such as those for gastroenterology, urology, vascular surgery and vascular medicine are also expected in the Messe Frankfurt venues.
